The San Diego County Fair opened it’s gates this past Friday to eagerly awaiting attendees!

History of the Fair

This event began as an agricultural fair in 1880, and has since become an iconic event in Southern California. This year’s theme is “A Fair To Remember: A Celebration of Worlds Fairs and Balboa Park”, which recognizes the centennial celebration of the Panama-California Exhibition, held in Balboa Park. One hundred years ago, the San Diego Chamber of Commerce put on the exposition to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal, with San Diego serving as the first U.S. Port ships would reach traveling while north.

This Year’s Events

With so much going on at the fair, including multiple events occurring every day, we have hilighted some events you won’t wanna miss:

Belly Up Music Festival- Every Thursday, the Belly Up Tavern brings you music from afternoon until evening. Headlining up the festival’s first week, Wild Child will be recreating  a concert by The Doors, starting this Thursday at 9pm.

Beer Festival – Head on over the Del Mar Arena while at the fair to enjoy the International Beer Festival, featuring over 400 beers from around the world. The beer festival will hold five sessions during the weekend of June 19-21. Tickets are available on the Beer Festival Website.

Kid’s Day- Every Tuesday the fair is open is Kid’s Day! Children 12 and under get free admission to the fair, and lots of extra activities around for them to enjoy.

Summer Concert Series – Toyota-sponsored concerts take place every night at the fair, with a different artist performing each night. Featured artists include Peter Frampton and Cheap Trick, Colbie Caillat, Kansas, Little Big Town, and many more.

Wine Festival- The Toast of the Coast brings you the finest samplings of wine from California and Baja California. Upgraded tickets are available for those who wish to attend the event in the Winemaker’s Tasting Area, where wine and food pairings will be led by award-winning winemakers.  Tickets for this event can be found on the Toast of the Coast website.

Plan Your Trip To The Fair

The Fair runs Friday, June 5 through Sunday, July 5. It will be closed Mondays and the first two Tuesdays. You can find the detailed schedule of events here.
